Visa and Legal issues

Planning your visit to UCU? Please read the following information

Ukraine issued a visa-free entry regime for up to 90 days within 180 days for a number of countries. If you are planning to come for a period of less than 90 days, please check whether you need a visa to enter Ukraine.

In case you are planning to stay for more than 90 days in Ukraine or visa-free entry regime is not issued for your country, please follow these instructions:

The process of legalization of foreign citizens in Ukraine has several stages:

  1. Making a letter of invitation
  2. Issuing a visa
  3. Issuing the temporary residence permit (posvidka)

Letter of Invitation

The letter of invitation is issued to foreign citizens who come for study or internship (including research activities or volunteering).

For making the invitation, the following documents are required (please contact UCU International Office for assistance):

  • Copy of the first page of the applicant’s passport
  • Copy of the document certifying the last completed education (diploma and annex)
  • Consent to personal data collection and processing (signed and scanned)

Please note:

After receiving the hard copy of the Ministry invitation the applicant must pay a fee of 324 UAH (approximately 12 USD) to the Ukrainian State Center for International Education for issuing this document.

Visa

The visa can be issued in any country, where the Embassy or Consulate Institution of Ukraine is located.

For issuing the visa, the following documents are required:

  • The national passport, valid for at least three months after the expiration date of the requested visa and having at least 2 blank visa designated pages
  • 2 photos – recent, passport-sized (3х4 сm), resembling applicant’s travel document photo
  • Valid medical insurance and sufficient financials for the period of intended stay and return to the country of origin or transit to a third country or guaranty to obtain sufficient financial resources in Ukraine
  • The supporting document related to the purpose of entry (the invitation for study/internaship issued by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the letter of support for the Ukrainian Diplomatic Institution provided by the UCU International Office)
  • Payment of consular fee and visa fee
  • Application form – before visiting the Diplomatic Institution, the online registration form must be completed, printed, signed and submitted to the Diplomatic Institution.

After completing the online form the applicant will be able to make an online appointment at the Diplomatic Institution office to which he will apply.

Please note:

For further issuing of the temporary residence permit in Ukraine, the type D visa is required.

Temporary residence permit

A temporary residence permit (posvidka) is the document certifying the identity of a foreign citizen or a person without citizenship and confirms the legitimacy of stay in Ukraine.

The process of issuing the temporary residence permit starts after obtaining a visa, which is open for a period of 45 days.

Under current law, documents required for issuing the temporary residence permit have to be submitted to the Migration Service no later than 15 days before the end of the 45-day period of the visa.

For issuing the temporary residence permit, the following documents are required:

  • 4 photos (3 х 4 сm)
  • A medical insurance valid on the territory of Ukraine
  • A notarized translation of the first page of the passport
  • Payment of the receipts (of 300 UAH)
  • Supporting document related to the purpose of stay in Ukraine (invitation for studies or documents for various programs under which a foreign citizen comes to UCU are provided by the UCU International Office)

Please note:

The process of issuing the temporary residence permit takes 15 calendar days. During this period, the foreign citizen must stay in Ukraine.

Not later than 30 days after obtaining the temporary residence permit, the foreign citizens should be registered at the place of their actual residence during the study period. Only after this, the temporary residence permit is valid.

The process of the registration of residence takes a maximum of 10 days.

During the period of residence registration, the foreign citizen should not leave the country.

In the case of prolonging a temporary residence permit, the documents for its extension must be submitted to the Migration Service no later than 15 days before it expires.

The temporary residence permit cancellation process takes from 10 to 20 days.

The temporary residence permit should always be returned to the Migration Service at the end of stay
